I ordered this memory for my first system build. Although I ran into roadblocks, the “working” RAM is great. My first issue was a bad mother board reviewed earlier. After that was replaced I continued to recieve blue screen shut down to prevent damage errors. I looked up the error message and learned that it was a memory error. After removing all but one stick, I was able to install Windows 7 Ultimate. I then, shut down and replaced the memory 1 stick at a time. The third stick produced the error. Overall, the memory works great, but the package it arrived in had some “internal” damage to the protective case holding the ram. I believe this was a Corsair problem, not Amazon. I have the system running with 4GB of ram now, and have requested replacement ram from Amazon. While these days 300 Gb is on the low side… what it lacks in storage it makes up in raw speed. I have a Mac Pro, and use Bootcamp to play games so I got this for quickness and not only does it copy, read, run utilities and generally make Windows 7 (which I didn’t intend to use a lot or even like) run lightening fast… games run without a moment of stutter. I have a RAID for my Mac OS using 2 WD 7200 RPM drives and this blows it away. Would be tempted to use 2 of these in a RAID but don’t have enough drive slots. Very stable drive, quiet, does get a bit warm but reasonable. WD is the best in terms of drives, I’ve had Seagate and Hitachis die on me under 2 years WD are rock solid stable.

Odd, I ordered the GLFS, because it was the only version offered on Amazon in brand new retail box. I’m a little insecure of OEM prods for HD.

I received it a few days ago, and just got done installing it. As I was installing it, I noticed that it did not match the images for this listing, which shows the placement of the SATA to be in dead center. To my “pleasant” surprise, it was the HLFS version with the conforming SATA standard placement of the SATA and power cable on the back (coulda shortened this but forgot the 2 word that describes this feature). I checked the box again and confirmed, it does say GLFS. So, I’m wondering if WD got with the program or they’re reusing the unused retail boxes of the less popular model? I’m still scratching my head about it…

I’m not too thrilled about the reports of overheating issues with the conforming version, but I was prepared for this and got a nice Silverstone Case with huge amounts of positive airflow to go with my build.

Anyways, hope this info helps those looking for retail boxed versions of the Velociraptors.

Haven’t powered it up yet. Will update as things progress.
